Call for the 11th inaugural class

(1) Contents of the program

Real-World Data Circulation (RWDC) is an academic field that creates new social values by materializing theoretical principles and ideas related to nature, humans, and society, and working on the complex and ever-changing real world. Regardless of their specialties, students can learn how to transform research results into value through "circulation of data acquisition, data analysis, and social implementation of data knowledge" through lectures and collaboration with various people.

The Graduate Program for Real-World Data Circulation Leaders is a degree program for doctoral students. The students who complete the below-described requirements will receive a doctoral degree with the inscription "Completion of the Real-World Data Cycling Leaders Program.

The program is known for its success stories, with many of its student startups. To date, more than 10 startups have been created, raising more than 1 billion Yen in funding, and employing more than 100 people. The program is highly regarded also in academia and internationally (The program received the highest rating of "S" in its 2019 evaluation).

In addition to the doctoral study in the specialty in each research field, the following opportunities will be provided, and completion of certain numbers of related seminars / practicums is required for completion.

・Degree program on Data Science (Lectures and group work with corporate members)

・Case studies based on real-world data provided from partner companies

・Studying abroad and internships to develop global leadership

・Exchange and networking across graduate schools, and guidance by faculty members from other research fields and corporate mentors

(3) Supports for program students (Note 1)

・Support for studying abroad (Introduction of destinations and financial support; up to 500,000 Yen in 2023)

・Employment as an RA for data science education (Financial support)

・Introduction to internship at RWDC student startups

(4) Application Requirements

Students who plan to enter or are currently enrolled in doctoral course of any graduate school in Nagoya University as of April 1st, 2024, are eligible to apply. Application and selection procedures can be found on the reverse side.

(Note 1) In the selection process for the financial support programs for doctoral students (Next Generation Frontier Researcher Program and Frontier Fellowships), enrollment in the RWDC program will be taken into account along with other leading graduate programs (However, the acceptance of an RWDC student by those program are not necessarily guaranteed).

(1) Application procedure

1.Application document (Note 2):The following application documents should be submitted to . 1, 2, and 3 are mandatory, and 4 is optional. However, in case 4 is not submitted, we will conduct an English proficiency test prior to the interview.

  1. Forms 1 and 2: Convert and submit in PDF format after filling in the given forms application form No. 1 (Excel)application form No. 2 (Word)
  2. Academic transcript: Copy of transcript prepared by the applicant's undergraduate University
  3. Recommendation letter: To be prepared by the current academic supervisor or equivalent
  4. Supportive documents: Copy of scoresheets of English proficiency tests such as TOEFL and TOEIC, submitted to the entrance examination of the applicant's graduate school, or taken within the past 6 months

3. Application period: Until May 31st, 2024 (Later applications will be considered for the 12th inauguration class)

Contents of the program

The following contents will be provided by the program, and for completion of the program, selectively taking these contents is needed.

Coursework

Practical Data Science Training Program (organized by Mathematica and Data Science Center)

Real-world work

The following 3 types of work. Introduction of destinations for studying abroad and internships will be supported by the program if needed.

・Studying abroad (Longer than 2 months with financial support)

・Internship (Longer than 1 month)

・Groupwork with other RWDC members

Thesis work

Guidance by faculty members from other research fields and corporate mentors

・Planning of doctoral research (Intermediate guidance)

・Doctoral research

(Note 2) Privacy policy

Personal information submitted as part of the application, including your name, address, and other personal information, is used solely for the selection including interviews and notification of results, and the organization of the graduate program. Personal information including test scores is used for the selection will be used for statistical analysis and research on the selection procedure in addition to the evaluation for the selection. Parts of the above-mentioned work may be contracted out. In such cases, we will establish a contract on handling personal information properly before disclosing part or all of the personal information.
