Creative Education and Research Activities Presented at NAGOYA Digital Contents Expo 2014

An interactive presentation on a projection mapping system was held during NAGOYA Digital Contents Expo 2014 at Nadya Park on December 6 and 7, 2014. As part of our creative research projects, Mari Endo, a first-phase participant of our program, headed the presentation on the "Development of a Presentation System Using Projection Mapping". The exhibit contained multiple randomly moving white balls, a red box, and green trees placed in a virtual three-dimensional space. This was projection mapped onto a stereographic projection screen (a polystyrene surface) in real space. The exhibit also incorporated a game using a motion capture device, LeapMotion, in which a person used their hands to place the white balls in the red box.

Of the almost 6,000 attendees of NAGOYA Digital Contents Expo 2014, many visited our booth and provided positive feedback. Visitors commented on how much they enjoyed the three-dimensional projection map and provided useful advice for future development, allowing us to evaluate our activities from the users' viewpoint. Their insight will significantly impact our guidelines for future research activities.

Through the presentation, project members began to more fully comprehend the purpose of the project and future challenges. Their experiences at NAGOYA Digital Contents Expo 2014 have been truly motivating as the team is already discussing improvements and new ideas. Hence, this event proved to be extremely valuable as midpoint evaluation of our project.
