In the October Plenary Meeting, reports on research internships, the Global Challenge II, and Follow-Up Visits, were discussed.
Date | Monday, October 23rd, 2017, 17:00-20:00 |
---|---|
Place | Nagoya University Higashiyama Campus, IB West Tower 6F, Leaders Studio |
Here is a short summary of each topic discussed:
In the research internship, students visit a business relevant to their research, where they learn about the structure and management of research conducted in a business. This time, three students reported on their experiences during their research internships. They learned about the decision making process based on a cost/performance trade-off related to the economy of the business - a concept they could not experience while doing research at the university.
The following shows students taking part in this terms' research internship and the business each internship took place at:
Student | Takahiro Yamakoshi (Third inaugural class, Information Science) |
---|---|
Place | BrainPad Inc. |
Student | Hyuntai Chin (Second inaugural class, Engineering) |
---|---|
Place | Toyota Central R&D Labs., Inc. |
Student | Dongjin Lee (First inaugural class, Engineering) |

Place | Toyota Motor Corporation |
In the Global Challenge II, students visit a top-tier international research institution. While participating in competitive research, they can practice the communication and interaction with international researchers. This time, three students reported their experiences during the Global Challenge II. Each student could get valuable new contacts while achieving new research results.
The following shows students participating in this Global Challenge II and the research institution it took place at:
Student | Ahmad Thuraya Kaadan (First inaugural class, Information Science) |

Place | University of Glasgow (Scotland) |
Student | Jessica Gabriela Beltran Ullauri (First inaugural class, Engineering) |

Place | Massachusetts Institute of Technology (US) |
Student | Mari Endo (First inaugural class, Information Science) |

Place | FH Joanneum University of Applied Sciences (Austria) |
In the Follow-Up Visit, students will re-visit a research institute they previously visited throughout the program. A visit is done in a group of students from different departments, so students can experience state-of-the-art research across different fields. This aims at broadening the students' horizon by allowing them to connect to people and organizations from other fields. This time, two students paired up to do a Follow-Up visit. They reported their experiences during the visit, and how it broadened their horizon.
The following shows students doing a Follow-Up Visit and their destination:
Student | Jessica Gabriela Beltran Ullauri (First inaugural class, Engineering) Mari Endo (First inaugural class, Information Science) |
