Below, each session of the symposium is summarized.

"The previous achivements of Real-World Data Circulation (RWDC) and future prospects"

Prof. Kazuya Takeda
(Program coordinator, Real-World Data Circulation Leading Program)

Prof. Kazuya Takeda, program coordinator of the RWDC Leading Program, reviewed the program's activities over the course of four and a half years. He emphasized that overseas internships, the Industry-Academia Creative Group work, and other research activities help the students' personal growth. Students already created social value by participating in research and founding startup companies.

"The program's activities and a PhD thesis related to Real-World Data Circulation"

Hongjin Chung (Student, 2nd year inaugural term)

Dr. Hongjin Chung, 2nd year inaugural term, gave a talk about the early completion of his studies at the leading program. In his PhD studies, he did research on a manufacturing technique calling "cutting". He discussed the relationship between cutting systems and real-world data circulation problems, and how he used it his research. Furthermore, Dr. Hongjin Chung discussed his study motives when entering the program in retrospect, emphasizing on how his leadership skills, English proficiency, and problem solving abilities improved through participating the program's activities.

Keynote lecture: "From the Leading Program to Tier IV"

Shinpei Kato
Associate Professor, Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, Tokyo University / Associate Professor, Nagoya University COI Mobility Innovation Center / Board of Directors, Tier IV Co. Ltd.)

Prof. Shinpei Kato, founder of the autonomous driving startup company Tier IV, held a keynote lecture. Recent autonomous driving technologies developed as open source software are gradually used in real-world experiments on public roads. This is made possible by new sensoring and information processing technology. Furthermore, rather than having autonomous driving as a business, Prof. Shinpei Kato discussed the place of businesses in a world where self-driving cars got commonplace.
