Reports on Research Internships

In the research internship, students visit a business relevant to their research, where they learn about the structure and management of research conducted in a business. This time, one student reported on his experiences during his research internship. He learned about the decision making process based on a cost/performance trade-off related to the economy of the business - a concept he could not experience while doing research at the university. Mr. Kenta Urano worked on developing wireless control applications for LED costumes. In order to solve control signal interruptions, he developed an application that can monitor the wireless signal. In his report, he stated that he gained experience in Android application development and more reliable hardware / software development skills. Here is a summary of this research internship:

StudentKenta Urano (Third inaugural class, Engineering)
Placemplusplus Co. Ltd.
TopicDevelopment of a wireless control for LED costumes

Reports on Global Challenge II

In the Global Challenge II, students visit a top-tier international research institution. While participating in competitive research, they can practice the communication and interaction with international researchers. This time, two students reported their experiences during the Global Challenge II. Each student could get valuable new contacts while achieving new research results. The students stated that they were able to work on research under the guidance of top-level researchers, resulting in a very meaningful experience. In addition, the student who studied at an institution other than a university also mentioned the high security awareness and feeling of unity between the research groups. The following shows students participating in this Global Challenge II and the research institution it took place at:

StudentWenbin Zhou (Third inaugural class, Informatics)
PlaceThe University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
TopicOn the incompatibility of quantum measurements
StudentStudent Yuki Kitsukawa (First inaugural class, Information Science)
PlaceLG Silicon Valley Lab
TopicDevelopment of a LGSVL Simulator
