JI received a bachelor’s degree in electrical and control engineering from the University Escuela Politecnica Nacional, Ecuador, in 2012. I am currently a Master’s student in the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering, Nagoya University, Japan, and belong to the group focusing on safety intelligence in the Mechano-Informatics and Systems Division. My current research interests include rehabilitation and orthosis robotics. In addition, I am also a member of the RWDC, a leading program of Nagoya University.

Research and Objectives

My current research mainly focuses on changes in a human's lower limb gait when the ankle's dorsal and plantar flexion are limited and the risks of falling due to these conditions. My goal is to determine what an ankle orthosis must guarantee in order to prevent falling in healthy elderly people.

However, my ultimate career goal is to design and create orthosis and prosthetics to meet specific needs of the disabled. I dream of being part of Dr. Hugh Herr's group at MIT to obtain high-level skills in the field of prosthetics development and to become a pioneer in this area.

I strongly believe that nothing is more important than doing my utmost to be happy every single moment. My daily encouragement is to work not for myself but for others. During my Master's studies, I interned at the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute (ATR) at the Department of Brain-Robot Interface of the Computational Neuroscience Laboratories. I would like to continue this research in the near future.
