Meet the Students

Ahmad Thuraya Kaadan

Department of Systems and Social Informatics, Graduate School of Information Science
Third year doctoral student

My name is Ahmad Thuraya Kaadan. I was born in Aleppo, Syria. I graduated from the Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Aleppo University. During my undergraduate studies, I was an active member of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Syrian Arab branch. I also participated in many local NGO’s.

Because my country faces issues with producing sustainable sources of electricity, I have always been concerned about energy and energy sources. By the time I entered university, I was thinking of ways to improve green-sustainable sources of electricity. My background in aerodynamics has motivated me to study new technologies and methods to create more effective and quieter wind turbines.

My interest lies in knowing more about vortex methods and vortex computational fluid dynamics in order to study fluid structure interaction. This method is commonly used in wind turbines by modeling vortex-induced fluid-structure interaction in flows around wind turbines. I am currently working on my Master’s degree in fluid mechanics, Faculty of Information Science, Nagoya University. I am researching hybrid methods to calculate the fluid dynamic equations of vortexes. These new methods will help solve computational vortex equations and reduce calculation costs. My short-term goal is to pursue my dream in obtaining a Ph.D. from Nagoya University, which has provided me an opportunity to enhance my skills and knowledge, while my long-term goal is to contribute to the well-being of human kind and to help rebuild my country.

My hobbies include reading, swimming, and chess.
